1. Operational Concept Description (OCD)

The Operational Concept Description (OCD) describes a proposed system. We define the operational concept in terms of the user needs it will fulfill, its relationship to existing systems or procedures, and how it will be used. The OCD is a discussion document used to obtain consensus between the customer, developer, support, and user agencies on the operational concept of a proposed system. Depending on its purpose, an OCD may focus on communicating the user's needs to the developer or the developer's ideas to the user and other interested parties. The term "system" can refer to either an entire system or part of a system (subsystem).

2. Functional Requirements Specification (FRS)

The Functional Requirements Specification (FRS) specifies the requirements for a system or subsystem and the procedure that will determine when each requirement has been met.

3. Interface Requirements Specification (IRS)

The Interface Requirements Specification (IRS) details the conditions imposed on one or more systems, subsystems, hardware configuration items, computer software configuration items, manual operations, or other system components in order to achieve blanket communication. An IRS can cover any number of interfaces.

4. Software Design Description (SDD)

The Software Design Description (SDD) specifies the system, or subsystem, wide design and the architectural design of a system or subsystem including UML diagrams. The SDD may be supplemented by Database Design Descriptions (DBDDs).

5. Database Design Description (DBDD)

The Database Design Description (DBDD) depicts the design of a database, a collection of related data stored in one or more computerized files, in a manner that can be most efficiently accessed by users or computer programs via a database management system (DBMS). It may also describe the software units used to access or manipulate the data.

6. Product Comparison Description (PCD)

The Product Comparison Description (PCD) compares two or more products including software from a user's perspective. It provides the user with sufficient, relevant information to evaluate and make an informed decision regarding use of any of the products/software in question.
